Paramhansa Yogananda - Wedding Ceremony - New footage

This footage of Paramhansa Yogananda was originally filmed by Fox Movietonews in Los Angeles on January 31, 1931. We have included 42 seconds of new footage! The original title of the Movietonews film was: "Hindu Marries American College Girl." Interracial marriage was illegal in California when Paramhansa Yogananda performed this ceremony in 1931. California did not repeal this law until 1948. At the end of the ceremony, the Master says, "This marriage is symbolical of breaking down the barriers of the brown Caucasians of India and the white Caucasians of America. And may all barriers be removed forever." The deep love of the guru for his disciple is also demonstrated in this video. Brahmachari Nerode, the man being married by Master in the footage had been a monk, a celibate "Brahmachari." Here, Master is performing the wedding ceremony himself, in an effort to instill in the married couple a desire to keep devotion to God at the center of their union.
